Mark Thomas, MD

Dr. Thomas long held a passion for working with young people, especially those with ADHD and other related health challenges. After several years at the University of Alabama where he held a dual appointments in the Student Health Center (SHC) and in the University Medical Center (UMC) Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Thomas returned to private practice in 2015 when he joined the Focus-MD network.

During his time at the University, Dr. Thomas ran the ADHD Clinic within the SHC and was the attending physician of the Adolescent Medicine Clinic at UMC. He also maintained teaching responsibilities with medical students and residents from the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine. Prior to joining the university faculty, he had several years of previous experience in private practice of adolescent and young adult medicine.

Dr. Thomas was a Fellow of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine. Within this organization, and had served as co-chairman of the ADHD Special Interest Group and the ADHD Clinical Services Subcommittee. He was actively involved in the American College Health Association and CHADD, the international support group and professional organization for children and young adults with ADHD. He frequently spoke to professional audiences at national and regional meetings and to educators and lay persons at the local level to increase awareness of ADHD and ways to assist young persons with related problems. He chaired the organizing committee for the Southeast Regional ADHD Conference hosted by the UA College of Continuing Studies. In addition to his clinical and educational pursuits, he was also involved in research concerning ADHD in a college setting and diversion of stimulant medication.

A native of Geneva, Alabama and a graduate of Samford University, he was very active within the community and served on the boards of non-profit agencies addressing the health and wellbeing of young persons including the Edge Foundation which promotes ADHD coaching for young persons.

Dr. Thomas was passionate about his medical practice, never wanting to turn a patient away. He had a huge heart for missions, especially for the Centro Medico Bautista in Asuncion, Paraguay where he made multiple medical mission trips. He spent his college summers on mission trips to Hawaii and Gatlinburg.
